Dance Company
Point Breeze Dance Company (PBDC) is the pre-professional training and performance ensemble of the Point Breeze Performing Arts Center (PBPAC). Company members range in age from 10 to 18 train and rehearse a minimum of 14 hours per week year-round.

Established in 1992 as Positively To The Point Dance Theater Company, this ensemble was founded by PBPAC in conjunction with some of our most talented students to give them an opportunity to train and perform under the guidance of professional artists. These artists and mentors have also helped to develop each company member's sense of community responsibility, as part of PBPAC's philosophy of Arts for Social Change. The result: professional-caliber dance productions that tap into the unique experience of company members to create intimate, uplifting and memorable performances for a wide audience.

Company members are more than committed, superb dancers. They are also a cohesive, positive group of youth leaders who strive for excellence in schoolwork and who constantly give back to the community. They support and mentor each other as well as the younger PBPAC students from other programs. Company Director and former PBPAC student Charon Mapp personally directs and nurtures the company, instilling a solid work ethic and at the same time promoting creativity and self-expression. In the annual Artist2Artist three-night concert series held each fall and spring, company members not only perform, but choreograph, rehearse and assume administrative and production responsibilities.

Point Breeze Dance Company Apprentice Program

The Point Breeze Dance Company Apprentice Program was developed in 2004 to provide those students from our Academy program who show artistic promise and want to be members of the Company the opportunity to receive intense training in order to prepare them for the demands of being a Point Breeze Dance Company member. Apprentice students study all dance disciplines and attend Company rehearsal two days per month.

Auditions for the PBDC and PBPAC Apprentice Program are held annually in October. For more information on auditions and membership in PBDC and the PBDC Apprentice Program, contact Charon Mapp.
